The company posted an advisory on it's Web site saying it has recently discovered the problem with some DSC-T5 Cyber-shot digital still cameras that causes the metal coating on the bottom to peel and warp resulting in cuts or scratches to the user's skin.
Sony will replace the defective part, and pay shipping for free for customers with cameras affected by the problem. Incidentally, the problem plagues cameras with serial numbers from 3500001 to 3574100, said Sony.
Reportedly, the recall is applicable to around 284,000 Cyber-shot cameras that were sold in the US, and about 66,000 that were sold in Japan.
After Canon, Sony is considered the world's second largest digital camera maker.
