Hewlett-Packard doesn’t forget the traditional handhelds, despite that the market experiences constant shrinking and is being forced out by smartphones and communicators. That is why the handheld makers should offer something special to stand out against competitors. Probably for this reason, Hewlett-Packard introduced the HP iPAQ 200 Enterprise Handheld series featuring advanced functionality and customer-friendly price. HP iPAQ 310 Travel Companion

The HP portfolio has been extended with another portable device called HP iPAQ 310 Travel Companion. It is designed to be any time at hand and assist travelers. The HP companion is a mixture of an ultra compact PC and a navigator equipped with a graphical accelerator (for 3D maps during GPS navigation).

HP iPAQ 110 Classic Handheld

For the budget sector Hewlett-Packard prepared its iPAQ 110 Classic Handheld, which is almost equal to the 200-series. It lacks some expansion ports and several control elements, and has a smaller display and less memory onboard. However the device is aimed now at some other users, who are interested in multimedia functionality.

There is some info from Amazon.com online store about a new smartphone by Pantech. This is a two-way slider with a sliding QWERTY-keyboard and a numeric one with the traditional way of opening. The site offers the smartphone for $179.99 on a 2-year service contract from AT&T operator. Admirably, the site posted high quality pictures of Pantech C810:

Vodafone’s Christmas products

The international mobile operator Vodafone has introduced its new phone lineup scheduled for the Christmas period. The list includes lots of phones, not yet announced by the vendors and which will be sold exclusively by Vodafone:

Vodafone 920 smartphone – made by HTC, powered by Microsoft Windows OS and 3G networks. This is a slider with a 2.4” display, a 2-megapixel camera and Windows Mobile services:

Vodafone 810 by Huawei. This is a slider with stylish design and 3G support, a 2.2” display and a 2-megapixel camera, all packed in a metallic shell:

Vodafone 720 by Huawei. It features a clamshell form, 3G networks, an “invisible” external display, a slim keyboard, a 1.3-megapixel camera. The phone will be available in Brown and Titan colors:

Nokia N800

This is the first N-series device by the company representing an Internet-tablet run by Linux and supporting no cellular networks. Samsung announces European sales of its F700 smartphone

Samsung Electronics officially announced the European sales of a Windows multimedia smartphone Samsung F700 starting in November. Its revised interface got iF Design award this year.

The model is equipped with a 3.2” widescreen touch-sensitive display, a 5-megapixel camera, a sliding QWERTY-keyboard and support of wireless technologies, such as Bluetooth v2.0 and HSDPA (up to 3.6 Mbps).


Samsung F7 is powered by Windows OS, but has company developed interface called “croix” (a French word standing for “cross”). Many have already dubbed the F700 with its interface a Korean iPhone, however this phone will be functionally advanced. As for the interface advantages, let’s wait for the release of the F700 and its commercial samples

More pics and specs on MOTOROKR E8 and MOTORIZR Z10

The GSMArena.com has reported it acquired detailed into and pictures of new Motorola handsets, which should be announced by the company soon. It deals with the much rumored MOTOROKR E8 and MOTORIZR Z10. We don’t see the reason why not to believe it and thus share the info with our readers. Well, let’s start with Motorola ROKR E8:

This is another Motorola’s music phone coming with a novel navigation element called “Omega Wheel”, probably because of its form resembling the letter from the Greek alphabet. Its keyboard is peculiar for tactile feedback whenever a key is pressed.

The E8 comes with 2GB of memory onboard expanded with microSD cards (up to 4GB), an FM-radio, Bluetooth, USB v2.0 and a 3.5-mm audio jack. Measuring just 115x53x10.6 mm it houses a 2-megapixel camera and a 2” 240x320 TFT display.

MOTOROKR E8 supports quad-band GSM and EDGE. The sales are set for November at the price of €280.

MOTORIZR Z10:

This is a successor to the RIZR Z8 smartphone powered by Symbian UIQ 3.1. It inherited the kick-slider form. As for the technical specs, I’d note, a 2.2” QVGA 240x320x16M color TFT display with a protective anti-scratch coating. There is a 3.2-megapixel camera with LED backlight and video capture capability (QVGA resolution, 30 fps). The device supports quad-band GSM (GPRS/EDGE) and dual HSDPA. The shipments should start in December at €400.

LG Electronics has announced a new version of the popular LG Shine from the Black Label Series – LG Shine “Pink”. With the functionality of the original LG Shine the new device features the full metal shell with Hot Pink color. The company suggests that LG Shine “Pink” set for October is ideal for girls who need an elegant accessory.

Glofiish X800 comes to stores

E-TEN Information Systems reported worldwide sales of the Glofiish X800 communicator. According to the company, this is the first communicator combining the support of 3G, high resolution display and GPS-module. In addition it’s the most advanced and functionally richest communicator by E-TEN.


The Glofiish X800 debuted at CeBIT 2007 in March 2007, Hanover, Germany. 3 months later E-TEN Information Systems showcased the communicator at Computex in Taibei reporting it would add a Samsung 500 MHz processor to the final version instead of 400 MHz expected earlier.

The X800 from the glofiish line became the pioneer communicator supporting both 3G networks and HSDPA standard.

The Glofiish X800 features:

LG Viewty (KU990) to support DivX video

Today LG Electronics and DivX announced they signed an agreement, under which a new 5-megapixel camera phone LG Viewty (KU990) will be capable to play DivX video.

Now all LG Viewty handsets to be shipped from mid October on will have “DivX Certified” logo. That is these devices will be compatible with a most popular video format, so users won’t have to convert video when recording it to the phone.

Acer released Ferrari Racing PDA

Acer has officially announced a GPS-enabled PDA Ferrari Racing. Some preliminary info has already popped up in the news. The model is peculiar for its design, which involves colors and logo of Ferrari. At the same time the device doesn’t have outstanding specs. Acer Ferrari Racing is powered by Windows Mobile 5.0. It is based on Samsung S3C2442XL 300 MHz processor and a 2.8” 320x240 display. Besides the racing PDA has onboard a built-in GPS receiver SiRF Star III, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g and 64 MB of memory. It supports SD/MMC cards, measures 108x58x16.8 mm and weighs 122 g.

Waiting for new Japanese edition SE phones

The announcement date getting closer gives rise to lots of rumors. This fall NTT DoCoMo, largest 3G service provider in Japan, is expected to introduce a new lineup of its top 900-series phones. Some Internet source posted a picture of a new phone, allegedly a Sony Ericsson model named SO905i:

The peculiar thing about the SO905i is its form-factor resembling of a two-way slider. Traditionally for such case there are no official comments to the picture – before the official announcement lots of things (including pictures) can get changed dramatically.

MOTOROKR U9 new music clamshell

We’ve already mentioned Motorola’s plans to expand the ROKR line with a PEBL clamshell. Now there are some new details on the upcoming MOTOROKR U9. This is a clamshell phone equipped with an external display showing music player touch sensitive buttons and track name.


MOTOROKR U9 supports GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks and a QVGA 262K color display. The source mentions an external OLED-display (128x160 pixels, 65K colors). Other features of the new Motorola’s music clamshell are as follows: 25 MB of internal memory, a microSD-slot (up to 4 GB cards), Bluetooth A2DP interface and microUSB. Measuring 90x48.6x16.4 mm it weighs 87.5 g. However it’s not yet clear when the new phone will be introduced.


GPS-enabled PDA Mio P360 and P560 officially introduced

As it was expected Mio Technology introduced today navigation PDA P360 and P560, heirs of P350 and P550 at IFA show in Berlin. They are powered by Windows Mobile 6 running on 400 MHz processors. In addition both models carry SiRF III GPS-receivers onboard and support SD/SDHC cards capacious of up to 4GB. The senior PDA (P560) is equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless modules.


Both handhelds will be supplied with MioMap 3 navigation software. Mio P360 has a price tag of €249 without the program and €299 with MioMap 3. Mio P560 will be offered for €349 or €399 on the same conditions. The exact release date hasn’t been unveiled yet.

Samsung SGH-i620 smartphone officially introduced

During IFA press conference Samsung Electronics officially announced the SGH-i620 slider smartphone, an heir of the SGH-i600. We’ve mentioned this device in our news, even full specification was posted. However it has been somewhat corrected after the official announcement.


The SGH-i620 is powered by Windows Mobile 6 Standard in GSM/GPRS/EDGE (900/1800/1900 MHz) and UMTS/HSDPA (2100 MHz) networks and supports Bluetooth 2.0. Built-in Wi-Fi hasn’t been confirmed. The rest specs are as follows: a 2” QVGA 65K color display, a 2-megapixel camera, a frontal VGA-camera, 80 MB of onboard memory and a microSD slot. Measuring 95x59x16 mm it weighs 126 g. the start of sales in Germany is set for September.

Sony’s portable media players Walkman NWZ-A810 and NWZ-S610

Sony has announced new media player series Walkman NWZ-A810 and NWZ-S610. They can play video (30 fps) in addition to radio, have QVGA LCD, support WMA, AAC and MP3 audio, JPEG images, MPEG-4 and H.264/AVC. The NWZ-A810 ensures 8 hours of video playback, and the NWZ-S610 – 9.5 hours, both of them can play audio 33 hours long. They have 2” and 1.8” diagonals respectively. Besides the NWZ-S610 is equipped with an FM-tuner.


The sales of Sony media players start in the US in September. The Walkman NWZ-A810 will be available in White, Rose, Black, Blue and Silver colors and with 2, 4 and 8 GB of memory onboard. The modifications will cost $140, $180 and $230 respectively. In its turn the Walkman NWZ-S610 will come in Black, Rose, Red and Silver shell colors. The versions with 2, 4, 8 GB will be offered for $120, $160 and $210.

NTT DoCoMo announced two WM6 smartphones for 3G Foma networks

The largest mobile service provider in Japan, NTT DoCoMo has unveiled its two new smartphones FOMA F1100 and FOMA HT1100 powered by Windows Mobile 6 (Japanese edition).

Both models are packed in the slider form, support HSDPA standard, have touchscreen LCD and come with the preinstalled McAfee antivirus. DoCoMo expects to launch commercial sales of FOMA F1100 and FOMA HT1100 in 1Q 2008.

LG-KS20 communicator: almost LG Prada on Windows Mobile 6

At IFA 2007 event in Berlin (August 31) LG will introduce its LG-KS20 communicator. The device debuted at 3GSM Congress early this year and roused some mess around it: rumors reported on LG Prada based on WM 6. In fact, the new product resembles LG Prada in design: it is equipped with a large touch sensitive display and has no buttons.

LG-KS20 is powered by Windows Mobile 6 Professional. It features a 2.8” display, a 2-megapixel camera, a frontal camera for video telephony, Bluetooth 2.0 interface, an integrated MP3-player. The communicator supports HSDPA standard (3.6 Mbps). The European release will take place in 4Q 2007.

3 new versions of Samsung Q1 Ultra

Samsung Electronics has expanded the Samsung Q1 Ultra UMPC lineup with 3 new models powered by Windows XP Tablet Edition – Q1U-SSDXP, Q1U-ELXP and Q1U-XP. Like the predecessor they come with a 7” touch sensitive widescreen display and a QWERTY-keyboard, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR.


The Q1U-ELXP is based on Intel A100 600 MHz processor and 40 GB HDD. It is listed for $999. The Q1U-XP is powered by Intel A110 800 MHz processor, 60 GB HDD and offered for $1149. And the Q1U-SSDXP features Intel A110 800 MHz processor, 32-GB NAND-flash drive. The price tag is $1649.

Nokia N95 8GB: excellent display, larger memory size

Today (29-08-2007) Nokia officially announced an 8GB model of the best multimedia smartphone Nokia N95, which it says got even better.

Keeping all key features of the previous model (5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens, A-GPS, WLAN, HSDPA and innovative two-way opening mechanism) Nokia N95 8GB boasts of 8 gigabyte of internal memory. In addition Nokia N95 8GB stands out for a new bright 2.8” QVGA display, which makes it easier to watch video, browse the Web and run navigation. With expanded memory the phone can store now up to 20 hours of video or up to 6000 tacks. The multimedia smartphone will be available in stores in 4Q 2007.
